Is now the time to lessen the use of Insurance Credit Scores for rating private passenger auto insurance?

In Delaware, things are heating up with the introduction of House Bill 80. Under the bill, which has been sent to the Delaware General Assembly, auto insurers would not be able to use Insurance Credit Scores and certain other variables to rate drivers in Delaware. The American Insurance Association, the Insurance Information Institute, and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies oppose the controversial bill and have spoken to the merits and benefits of using credit data in automobile insurance rating. Politicians in opposition to the use of credit believe the current system is discriminatory and does little to improve road safety.
