Dr. Eren KESIM, is faculty member of the Anadolu University Faculty of
Education, Department of Educational Sciences and Division of Educational
Administration. He graduated from the Anadolu University Faculty of
Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics in 2001.
He continued to study at the Anadolu University Institute of Educational
Sciences in the field of Educational Administration, Supervision, Planning and
Economics. He received his Master degree in 2004, and his doctorate degree in
2009. His academic research continues in the fields of economics of education,
economics of distance education, educational administration, educational
technology management and the training of school principals.

The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on the Field of Economics of Education: An Analysis Based on Digital Skills

Every era exists within its own paradigm, and the COVID-19 pandemic era is a game changer that requires new perspectives. This requirement also holds true for the field of economics of education. This era of change requires the reevaluation of educational institutions. The economics of education are venturing beyond traditional fields of study regarding the development of digital skills. Topics such as financial administration, budget management, costs, supply and demand of educational services, and the reflections of learning losses on the knowledge economy represent the changing dynamic locus of the economics of education regarding digital skills during the pandemic period. In this chapter, the general impact of the pandemic on educational institutions is portrayed, the importance of digital skills in global competition in the digital economy is discussed, and lastly, the paradigm shifts in economics of education as an important field of educational sciences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are described and evaluated within the context of the economics of distance education.

The Importance of Distance Education Experts in the Organizational Development Process of Distance Education Institutions: A Theoretical Evaluation

The rapid development of new technologies has forced all nations to adopt new perspectives regarding the intense competition process. Educational institutions are expected to compete in such a state that it has become paramount for these institutions to manage this paradigm shift. With newly developing areas of expertise, management of distance education institutions is rapidly becoming a process in need of delicate attention. As such, this chapter studies the need for new perspectives and approaches in this process of change regarding distance education institutions and their organizational development process. The matter of expertise in this field is discussed, along with the qualities of distance education experts and their role in the organizational development induced by this paradigm shift. Lastly, recommendations for future research and applications are made regarding the process of change itself, in both institutional and educational capacities and regarding individuals in this field, specifically experts guiding this change.

Development Trends in Economics of Distance Education from the Perspective of New Technologies

New and developing technologies influence all societies in the 21st century in which the process of change is experienced intensely. Through the increased routes of access to knowledge and the increased importance of up-to-date information, the needs and expectations of individuals have become more varied. Countries with individuals equipped with new and current information in accordance with the needs of the age have an important competitive advantage in the global economy. The importance of education as a social institution grows every day in this process. In the 21st century understanding of education, which portrays the individual as a value to be developed, many sub-fields of expertise have emerged as educational sciences developed further. Studies in these fields allow for educational institutions to train and raise more qualified people. One area of expertise that guides national educational policies today is distance education. Distance education services provided by emerging technologies provide flexible learning opportunities for all individuals. An important aspect in providing distance education services is the economics of distance education. This chapter studies the economic aspects of distance education services through a general evaluation of emerging technologies with regard to the economics of distance education.

School Management During the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Qualitative Study

The aim of the research was to reveal the school management process during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was designed on the basis of case study in qualitative research paradigm. Maximum variation sampling was used in the study. As such, 15 school principals with various years of experience, serving at various school levels were included in the study. Data was obtained from a semi structured interview form with 11 items. Inductive analysis was utilized in data analysis. The primary finding of the study was the precautions taken by school principals during the pandemic. These are physical precautions, informative precautions, and productive precautions. Another finding was that school principals made their best effort to fulfill their duties and responsibilities in-school, out of school, and regarding their leadership roles. Lastly, school principals problems mainly revolved around two groups: the resources of the school and students, and the decisions made, regarding educational and instructional processes.
