Launched in 2016, Tay was designed to learn from social media interactions. However, within hours, it began spewing hateful and offensive content. This wasn't due to malicious intent from its creators, but rather the result of users deliberately feeding Tay negative information. Programmed to learn from interactions, Tay simply mirrored the toxic behavior it encountered. Microsoft was forced to shut down the chatbot after just 16 hours, marking a significant setback for AI development.
